Twitter for iPhone has been updated and the much hated #dickbar Quick Bar has been removed.

The intoduction of the Quick Bar infuriated many users, so this was a smart move by Twitter. In fact, many users sought out 3rd party Twitter applications to replace the official one.

Were you one of those users? Will you return to Twitter’s official application now that the Quick Bar has been removed? Or have you fallen in love with a different app, and if so, which one?

[Thanks Ethan for the tip!]

Images leak out of Pentax NC mirrorless camera system, makes us long for summertime

At this point, we're guessing that it's just a matter of time before the likes of Pentax and Nikon toss their hat into the ever-expanding mirrorless camera ring, and at least for the former, it looks as if that could come sooner rather than later. If the (predictably grainy) image above is to be believed, the NC-1 is dangerously close to being ready for primetime, and according to leaked materials, it'll be the world's smallest mirrorless camera when it gets official in May / June. Purportedly, we'll find a 14 megapixel sensor and a pair of lenses to choose from -- an 8.5mm f/1.9 prime lens as well as a 5-15mm f/2.8-4.5 standard zoom. Crazier still, the NC system could be followed by a larger system in the summer, with that fellow sporting an APS-C sized sensor and compatibility with K-mount lenses. 'Course, we'd invite you to chase all of this with a dash of salt for now, but you can bet we'll be scrounging for more.

[Thanks, Andrea]

Talking, before social networking penetrated everyone’s lives, was the most prevalent form of human communication, as people converse, sing, crack jokes and do silly stuff with their vocal chords. VoiceActivator, available via cydia, adds another function to your voice: It lets you control every feature of the iPhone by simply talking, more specifically, barking out voice commands.

VoiceActivator is an iPhone application that lets you set voice commands for all the features of the mobile phone. The app is sensitive to the commands, triggering the functions you wish to activate quickly. You don’t have to repeatedly bark out orders to your phone for it to power various functions. This bodes well for people who travel a lot or have their hands full, literally, with work.

Previously, the built-in voice command applications allow you to trigger only a limited number of functions. VoiceActivator improves all that. You open the screen for new messages, check your iPhone’s data or even switch off Wi-Fi connectivity using voice commands. Setting commands is simple, as the directions are pretty straightforward. The phone’s functions are displayed on the app’s menu. All you have to do is assign vocal cues to each, and you’re off.

Perhaps the greatest benefit of this iPhone application is for those who spend a lot of time behind the wheel. Tinkering with a mobile phone while driving is said to cause road accidents, and this app allows mobile phone users to focus more on the road, even if someone zips them a flurry of SMS messages. You can simply speak out the commands you need, and the phone automatically does your bidding.

The latest versions of VoiceActivator just made the application even more functional. Apart from opening phone functions, you can also verbalize text messages and send them without the need to use your hands. One glance at your phone is all you need to respond to an SMS message, given the feature.

voiceactivator command

VoiceActivator works on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G. Of course, it only supports jailbroken devices. iPad users can only hope that its developer also makes a version for tablet computers, but for now, users of Apple mobile phones are more than happy to speak out their phone-related obligations.

Happy MLB Opening Day! Some app picks to keep baseball fans up-to-date

MLB

Here we go again as we embark on the long journey that is the MLB regular season. Due to the longevity of the schedule and variety of times that the games are played, it's often difficult to keep up with your favorite team(s) when you're on the go. That's where the mobile world comes in, especially when the phones and devices we use get faster and better every day.

I've compiled a few apps for all of the baseball fans out there that will help them keep up with news, scores, schedules, states and much more, for their team and around the MLB. A few of the following apps are very similar in function; they provide scores, schedules, news and so forth. You really need to find the app the works best for you and update the fastest for your device. Here we go:

Firefox 4 officially launched, 1,000,000 downloads and climbing fast

Firefox 4 launched
Mozilla has just flipped the switch on the new, rather beautiful Firefox 4 download page. No, we have no idea who those three cute (and utterly crazy) characters are.

Update: You can keep track of Firefox 4 downloads around the globe with Glow, a beautiful pseudo-real-time download counter. There's also Twitter Party, which builds a Firefox logo mosaic from Firefox-related tweets.

Along with the download page, there is a lovely HTML5ified tour of Firefox 4's new features, covering Sync, hardware acceleration, the new privacy controls, and links to the Web O' Wonder demos, how to set up Panorama, and more.

At the time of writing there have been 385,000 downloads, which we assume are downloads from yesterday's 'pre-release' flurry. Let's see if we can get it up over 8 million in the next 24 hours and secure another world record for Mozilla! It looks like this is the same build that we linked to yesterday, so there shouldn't be any need to re-download. Update: Just two and a half hours in and the number of downloads is over 1.1 million.

Once you've installed Firefox 4, check our complete guide. We also have a fine selection of Firefox 4's finest restartless add-ons -- and if you're a first-timer, or you're defecting from Chrome or Internet Explorer, check out our must-have list of add-ons.

You asked us to put the Otterbox Defender head-to-head against the Incipio Destroyer in a proper, traditional Smartphone Experts style review and… I thought to heck with that. We’re doing an Amazing Case episode of TiPb TV. No, not a Jiu-Jitsu death-match or scratch test or water torture, this time we’re taking the Defender and the Destroyer out onto the frigid Canadian slopes, we’re putting them up against ice and snow and mud and rocks — we’re literally putting our butts on the line to stress test them for the TiPb nation!

We’ve previously taken a look at how to put on and take off the Destroyer and how to install and remove the Defender. This time we took them… sledding! Now the Defender’s outer layer is silicon (Destroyer puts that layer inside) and non-stick might be great for grip but not for racing down a hill. So we had to take that off. Destroyer is also literally screwed together. With differences like that, could it be a fair test? Could we figure out which one would best keep your iPad protected (and me alive?)

Hit play and find out!

[Special thanks to @marcedwards from Bjango for the 1-star rating t-shirts. Meh!]
